19 October 2018 on Global Warming (and other politically-charged subjects)

Found this one today:

A good rule of thumb espoused by Scott Adams, the writer of “Dilbert”, is not to trust any opinion, including scientific ones, when there is a stiff political, social and/or economic price for not upholding it.

Like I talk to you guys about. Whenever you are "overwhelmed" with "the majority of people agreeing" about whatever scientific or political opinion is blowing in the wind...always ask yourself (and them, if you are feeling confrontational) "What is the proposed solution to this 'crisis?'" THEREIN lies the truth.

With Global Warming, we have been beaten over the head by the media and "all the scientists agree" that manmade GW is going to destroy the planet in 5, 10, 50, 100 years. Several of these deadlines have passed with minimal changes to our lives. The proposed "solution" to GW is to increase US taxation to pay the "penalty" of being such a polluter while the rest of the world can continue business as usual. Additionally, we are told that we can "cure" GW by giving up our vehicles, single-family homes, suburban living, the food that we eat, etc.

Without trying to sound like a conspiracy theorist, their solution looks to put us in a quality of life akin to either North Korea, East Germany (pre-wall coming down) or pre-1989 Communist Russia (take your pick, they all sound like wonderful places, if you just give them a chance.)
