2020 - A new decade. Let's make the best of it!

Guys, it's 2020. This, hopefully, will be the last decade where I MUST work to survive. If my plans go right, I will be able to retire around age 60. I have been saving MOST of my work career, and have been working in jobs that pay pensions (a rare commodity these days.) Kids, since pensions are dying, I beg you to immediately start saving when you start working and NEVER stop. If your company doesn't offer a 401k or if you end up working for yourself, setup a Roth. Start with 10% as an allotment and go up from there. You can set yourself up for retirement and never stop doing so.

I think people (and especially men) must keep working on something, even if it is part time. A person needs a reason to get out of the house a few times a week to interact with others. If I have a small side business, I will consider making that my primary gig. If not, I wouldn't mind picking up some lightweight retail job SUPER part time for some beer money. If money is not required, I will flip Volkswagens (or some other used cars) or even volunteer to read or help others learn how to read.

This decade will hold many changes for you (my kids) as you complete your public school careers and seek either college or technical training. Your Mom and I are really concerned about helping you explore all the possible types of careers you might have an aptitude for. The odds are that what you end up doing for a living might not even exist today. You guys are smart, creative, and fun to be around so I am sure you will do just fine. Please build a strong work ethic and positive attitude, especially when your work life tries to get you down.

Let's make the best of 2020, I am so proud of you guys and where you are in your lives.
