Be Prepared

I am writing this in the light of the Cornavirus outbreak that we are experiencing together. This is the strangest event since 9/11 and is the first of these types of things that's happened in your lives.

Guys, I know that you think "Nothing bad ever happens." I've heard you say that and when you did, I felt proud as a parent (temporarily) that we have been able to provide for you in such a way that our family wants for very little.

However, your Mom and I both were taken aback with the thoughts that this mode of thinking would lead you to have a lackadaisical view towards being generally, basically prepared. I know most of your desire to not bring a jacket on a short car ride or wearing flip flops because it's "easier" than putting on shoes and socks. We have been fortunate enough to have newer, reliable cars that haven't let us down.

This really bothers me.

Yesterday, when I got home, we talked about basic security of the house. (Too many times, I have woken up for work to find at least one of our exterior doors unlocked.) Tonight, I will reiterate this need for basic security. Also, I will go into other types of preparedness (food, water, the house) as well as personal preparedness and situational awareness. SA is important when times get weird. People, under dire conditions, can be quite irrational. We need to watch out for each other and help with being mentally as well as physically prepared for the worst-case.

We have always needed to prepare, and now it's not too late.

Mental preparation
Physical health
Water stores
Food stores
Keeping the house in good working order
Vehicle maintenance
Communication

I need to expand on these later.

I love you.
